5 Simple Ways To Encourage Yourself

5 Simple Ways to Encourage Yourself

How do you encourage yourself? This is an important question. Keep reading for ways to encourage yourself.

When you are working on goals in your life, sometimes you need to encourage or motivate yourself. I discussed in a previous post about why you need to motivate and encourage yourself.

To give yourself encouragement, it may be helpful to have a list of ways in place that you can pulled from. I know getting encouragement from others feels great. It is good to have support like that.

There are moments when it is just you vs you. Everyone is not with you all time.

Picture this. You have created eight steps that will help you accomplish your recent goal. You have made it through four of the steps. You get to the fifth step and get tired.

Things may not be happening fast enough for you (so guilty of this). Next, you lose your focus or lose your way. I have been guilty of all of them before.

Obstacles are coming up from everywhere. Your tank of energy is on E. You’re feeling down. You feel like you can’t make it through step five. Making it to step 8 is not looking for very promising in the future.

There is no one there to tell you to push on.

There is no one there to tell you that you only have three steps left.

There is no one there letting you know how far you have made it.

So, where will you get the energy/strength and encouragement from to push on through step five and make it to step eight?

If you have a list of ways in a place where you can encourage yourself, you can get your push from it.

You can get that cheerleader cheering

“You got this”

“You almost there”

“You only got a little ways to go”

I will share my list.   I have complied a list of 5 ways I encourage myself.

1.  Read my bible (I love Proverbs)  and one on one time with God.

2.  Encourage someone else.

3.  Seek and identify how far I have made it and remember the benefits of accomplishing the goal.

4.  Read inspirational quotes and words.

5.   Go for a walk.

These seem so simple to do but they can be so easy to forget. While writing this post, I was like, I do these at some point or another. What is the big deal about writing them down in a list form?

They are not secrets that have been hiding away. They are just common activities that I participate in.

But there is a big deal,

The big deal is to have something in place for when the times come when I will need that boost of encouragement when I am alone.

The big deal is to remind me that I have what it takes to get through the rough patch.

I have already prepared myself for this time if it should come. You know that time.

That time when the negative voices want to meet up and have their say in your head.

Trying to cloud your thoughts and make you feel like you just can’t do it. Cheering you on to quit. Yeah, that time right there.

Instead of going through the woe, it’s me phrase and possibly ends up quitting, I can go back to the list that I created and remind myself that I got this. Go through the ways on the list and push through.

There is an overall positive theme this list creates in my life. It creates a positive environment.

If you want to do anything good or positive, you need a positive environment. This list helps me create one when I am feeling stuck.

After I complete the things off this list, I can encourage myself. I speak positive things about myself. I can cheer myself on. I remember my strengths. I remember what I am capable of. I remember the positive characteristics of myself that I forgot when I got stuck on the step 5.

You see, many things can steam from a positive environment. Self-encouragement is one of them.

In this positive environment, I will also gain strength. I always gain strength from my times with God.

I even have away on the list to stop and relax /clear my mind for a moment if I have to by going for a walk.

There is also a way on the list to help someone while helping myself. It is not all about me.

Doing everything on this list helps create a positive environment where I have the power to encourage myself.

Life happens. We get sidetracked. We need to take some time to pause and reset. A list like this will help you regroup.

It takes you from being stuck to remind you of some things about yourself you have forgotten.

You are full of different strengths. Sometimes, you need to be reminded.

A positive environment gives you the space to do that. So, you can keep going.

Your list does not have to look like mine. It may be different from mine but the result is the same. Creating a positive environment where you are able to encourage yourself is the ultimate goal.

I know you may have heard this before. It may even seem like common knowledge.

But have you noticed how things we categorized as common knowledge and positive seemed to slide through the cracks of life during some of the most difficult times?

What we thought was common knowledge, was forgotten during those times.

By creating a list, we are creating a positive environment. We are also taking back control over our life.

By having something already in place, we are equipping ourselves with tools to get back up, encourage ourselves, cheer ourselves on, etc.

I kept the list short and simple because when you are going through the motion of feeling stuck, you need something easy to do to get you back on track.

Something simple to create the positive environment you need to get help you encourage yourself.

The list may help give us the push we need to get through step 5.

The list may help reduce the number of times we end up listening to the negative voices or even talking ourselves out of completing what we started.

I know I have talked myself out of doing things before that could have been beneficial to me.

By establishing a list of ways to encourage ourselves, we are creating a positive environment in which we can do what needs to be done to empower ourselves.

The list is another tool to get you through step five and make it on to the finish line. Tools set you up for success.

What are some ways you participate in to encourage yourself?

  1. This is such a great list. Sometimes we really do forget that the simplest things can encourage us. Something as simple as a walk can clear your head and make you feel better and chase those negative thoughts away. 🙂

    1. I love how you stated “chase those negative thoughts away.” That walk can give us the strength to do just that. 🙂

  2. Going on a walk always gets me thinking about the important stuff and usually when I come up with new challenges to try out and push myself.

    1. That is so true, Ashley! We are able to push ourselves. The power to push through is within us. We just have to tap into it. 🙂

  3. You have written a great list & informative information. I do agree walks are a way to encourage me as well as the bible. I read & I am always asking God for motivation to do things, and help with hard tasks!

    1. I am glad that you enjoyed the post, Tianna! Thanks for stopping by and I enjoyed my visit on your blog 🙂

  4. Thank you so much! I really needed to read that today.I’m going to make my list right now. I’ll share one of my tips with you- whenever I am stressed out and unsure that my needs will be met whatever they may be, I make a list of all the things that I need or that I’m praying for, then I make a list of all the things that I’m grateful for. Usually what happens is that the list of what I need is much much shorter than the list of what I’m grateful for and somehow that brings calm to the situation. also reading my Bible helps too that’s one that I love. Thanks again for posting this I really needed to see it today. Now I’m off to make my list of things to do when I get discouraged!

    1. Hey Selena, I’m glad that it was helpful to you and thanks so much for sharing your helpful tips. Enjoy making your list 🙂

  5. HI JcCee thanks for sharing your posts. It is hard to push through when motivation waivers. I try to review what I have accomplished tick those off the list and this gives me the encouragement to keep going to tick more off. #FridaysBlogBooster

  6. Thanks again JcCee for your positive input that is so helpful for us all. I love that through blogging we can help and encourage each other. Just yesterday I felt all the negatives taking over and I made myself stop and list all the things that I am thankful for. It was not long before things balanced back from my negative view of the situation. Like you, walking does wonders. Thanks so much for bringing your wise words to Fridays Blog Booster Party.
    Kathleen

  7. I think for me my number one boost is to sleep because I find a big divide between quitting and my list. After sleep I can make the jump,

  8. Hi JcCee, we all have times when we get discouraged. It is especially easy in the blogging world where sometimes if feels we are writing for crickets. I try to remember that when I am most discouraged, something always happens to encourage me again- a great comment on a post, a featured post, a writing opportunity. i tell myself- tomorrow something good will happen.

    1. Hey Michele, thanks for sharing encouraging words. Yes, it is always nice to get a great comment, featured post, or writing opportunity. Have a great weekend 🙂

  9. Going for a walk is my favorite piece of advice you give here! It’s so true! Being able to clear your head, or better yet, gather your thoughts about whatever direction you might be heading in, is something I always do! It’s nice to get a little fresh air, and pull yourself back together to continue on your path!

    1. You have shared some great benefits that comes with walking, Ariel! Sometimes, we definitely have to pull ourselves back together to continue on. Thanks so much for stopping by 🙂

  10. Thanks for sharing Jccee. I’ve recently decided to start listing myself. I need more control over my schedule, and I think that is the best way to make sure the important things are getting done.

    1. I understand what you mean about more control. I am working on that also. Thanks so much for stopping by, Amy 🙂

  11. This is a great post! I love to go for walks or a nice run to get a little clarity and encouragement! Sitting in the spa also helps. Thank you for sharing!

  12. These are all great tips for staying motivated and encouraged. It always helps e when I look back on past accomplishments to see how far I’ve come and to remember what I am capable of doing when I’m motivated.

    1. Thanks so much, Yanique! I love the boost of motivation I get from looking at how far I’ve come. 🙂

  13. Great suggestions. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of worrying so much about encouraging others that we don’t have any energy left to spend on ourselves. Ideally, others would encourage us right back but you cannot always count on that.

  14. I love your list, and I love your blog. Your posts are always packed with quiet wisdom. 🙂

  15. Great post! I think it’s important as well to set realistic goals for yourself… something to motivate you to reach that next level… whatever it is. Not a chore list, but an overall “to do” list for your self alone to work at and then you can see your own progress.

    1. I agree that the goals should be realistic. I love to do list also. Thanks so much for stopping by, Kaitie!

  16. What an inspirational post! I love the one on encouraging others. If your not getting the encouragement you need then give it away. It’ll come back two folds!!!!

    Well done, Kathleen

  18. I hold in mind the fact that dipping in energy and doubting oneself half way through a long project is normal and not a reflection of my lack of ability. i sit with it and find that it gradually goes. Great post. You made me really think about how I manage those times. #shinebloghop

    1. I agree that it is normal. I am glad that you were able to reflect on how you manage those times. I think that it is important to be aware of those times and have some techniques set aside to get you through them. Thanks so much for stopping by, Kirsten. Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂

  19. I agree Jccee sometimes it is hard for the motivator to keep motivated. Having a list is a great idea so thanks for sharing with us at #WednesdaysWisdom
